Rather a strenuous week. On Monday I went to a “Mothers Meeting” at Sk[egness] G[rammar] School. It was a lecture on what to tell our children about the facts of life. It was illustrated with a film and was very instructive and interesting, but it is too big a subject for one lecture and this one was all for teaching everything in a natural way to growing girls and boys. There is however a lot against, as well as for this. We who have lived so much longer and are parents must look at these things from so very different an angle and tho’ the film was to me simply natural and not in the least offensive, to young people it might be a shock. One idea I thought idiotic, they showed us a film that was to be shown to children (girls over 14 and boys 16) separately of course, of a mother telling facts to a boy of 3 or so by answering truthfully the question where did his baby sister come from? He asked one or two questions and then went off to play. Now, I am sure there were a lot more things he would have wanted to know, once he got started. I still think a child of that tender age should not know so much.
On Tuesday Aunt Jet, Amy and Ken came. Auntie wished she had brought her nightdress. Told her we must get this wedding over. In the afternoon Mrs Hall brought a phone message from Ron and Father met him at Willoughby at 10 to 6. Ken went with him. He had come until Thur. morning as he was posted to Isle of Man. Very tired on arriving as he had to “raise Cain” to get a day off. But after tea and a rest was himself again. He phoned Emmie and she said he was not to go to Leeds as he had been for the week-end, but to spend the day at home (Good girl). The registrar had been a bit awkward with Emmie so Ron saw the one at Sk. and got all fixed up. It is a bit upsetting but we are fortunate in that it is I.O.M. and not abroad. We hope it won’t upset wedding plans.
